Shanna Kraai, MSW, LICSW, Clinical Director

Shanna Kraai (pronounced Shan-nuh like Banana and “cry” like you are sad) is a licensed clinical social worker, with experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults.  Ms. Kraai brings over 17 years of experience working in outpatient settings that highlight her passion for youth and family systems.  She is an adjunct professor at Boston University and received her Masters of Social Work from the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver with a clinical specialization in families, trauma, and high-risk youth. Mrs. Kraai moved to MA in 2022 and established Rise & Shine Family Therapy as thriving practice for youth and their caregivers.  Prior to this move, Shanna worked in outpatient clinics in Nashville, TN for 6 years providing individual and family services, as well as developing and running therapeutic support groups for children and adolescents. Mrs. Kraai has over 10 years of experience working in public, private, and international school settings (preschool to high school, alternative school settings also) and has provided school consultation services and professional development talks around mental health interventions in schools on the topics of bullying, trauma-sensitive schools, social emotional learning (SEL), anxiety disorders and depression, special education/student support programming, social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum design, and school safety prevention.  Mrs. Kraai is keen at assessing needs, collaborating with providers (school and medical), and supporting families in understanding and guiding their children. 


Shanna specializes in working with youth and their families on a variety of challenges including anxiety disorders (generalized, social, OCD, and specifically selective mutism), depression, ADHD and executive functioning deficits, Autism Spectrum Disorders, transitions (divorce, moves, parental disruption), grief/loss, and learning difficulties with a skill-based approach. Ms. Kraai utilizes ERP (exposure response prevention), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and mindfulness based approaches with training from the BECK Institute of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as the international MIND Institute on Mindfulness-based treatment.  Shanna is skilled in providing family therapeutic support and utilizes research-based methods from SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions).  Mrs Kraai is trained in RO-DBT(Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), which is an evidence-based treatment modality for overcontrolled personalities with difficulty in social signaling.  She is a specialized skills instructor for RO-DBT skills. Shanna takes a collaborative approach and values communication with outside service providers for wrap-around support with children.  She is passionate about emotional well-being and aspires to create a climate of empathy, creativity, and understanding among individuals, youth, and their families.

When not working, Shanna enjoys spending time with her 2 children hiking, biking, traveling, and skiing.  She is an avid runner, yogi, and lover of coffee, music, and elephants.

“Bo” Boden, Certified Therapy Dog

Bo is a 75 lb. black sheepadoodle who spends select days at the office savoring as much petting as possible.  He received his Canine Good Citizen certificate at 2 years old and received his therapy dog certificate training through Pet Partners in 2021. Bo has been joining Shanna at her office sporadically for approximately 3 of his 5 years of life.

When not working, he enjoys sleeping, spending time with his family, chasing tennis balls, and running around the yard with his dog friends. He particularly loves pet scratches under his ears, on his back legs, and playing in SNOW!

Lisa Duenas,

MSW, LCSW

Lisa brings over 5 years of clinical experience with children and adolescents. She completed her Master’s in Social Work at Boston College, specializing in Trauma-Informed Care with Adolescents and Children. During her graduate studies, Lisa interned at Boston Children’s Hospital, providing social-emotional support to children and parents of children with long-term health conditions and high-risk infants. She has a strong background in medical social work and trauma-related community impact programming.

Lisa has delivered intensive community-based bilingual mental health services to high-risk youth exhibiting symptoms of anxiety, depression, suicidality, and traumatic experiences, both emotional and physical. She prioritizes the roles of family, spirituality, culture and autonomy when working with children, adolescents, and their caregivers.

As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Informed therapist, Lisa focuses on emotion identification and regulation, utilizing mindfulness and CBT-based practices. Her experience spans working with children and adults undergoing transitions such as divorce, relocation, identity formation during adolescence, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and chronic health conditions.

Outside of her professional life, Lisa enjoys exercising, hiking, playing basketball, running, spending time with friends and family, and interacting with furry animals.

Emma Crowley,

MSW, LCSW

Emma is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who specializes in providing therapeutic support to children, adolescents, and their families. Emma utilizes evidenced-based therapeutic approaches to help clients navigate emotional. behavioral, and mental health challenges. With experience working in school, day programs, and hospitals, Emma tailors therapy to meet each client's unique needs. Emma utilizes a strengths-based approach and practices trauma informed care. She incorporates aspects of dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Whether addressing issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, or social difficulties, Emma works collaboratively with clients and their families to build coping skills, enhance emotion regulation, and promote overall well-being. She is committed to creating a safe space where clients can process their feelings, receive support, and feel empowered to navigate life's challenges.

Emma received her undergraduate degree at Worcester State University and her Master's Degree from The University of Tennessee in social work with a focus in trauma-informed care.


In her spare time, Emma enjoys being outside, spending time with her friends and family, reading, being with her cats, and baking.

Katherine Lee,

MSW, LCSW

Katherine is a seasoned clinician who has worked in community non-profits, youth programming, and school settings (preschool, elementary, high school).  She holds a school adjustment counseling license in addition to her LCSW license and is a CBT and mindfulness-based therapist.   Katherine received a Bachelors degree from the University of Delaware and a Master’s in Social Work from Boston University on the clinical track with a macro minor.

Katherine has experience in exposure work (ERP) for anxiety and provides parent coaching as a part of her collaborative work.  She has experience facilitating therapeutic, psychoeducational and activity groups.   She works with children, adolescents, and their caregivers around issues of family conflict, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, and learning difficulties.  Katherine has a strong emphasis on skills development and is well versed in working with youth and families around complex dynamics and learning needs.  Katherine is under clinical supervision with Shanna Kraai, Clinical Director, until she receives her LICSW certification.

In her free time, Katherine enjoys spending time with her family, figure skating, traveling and attending Broadway shows.

Anna Peet, LMHC Practicum Student

Anna is currently a Masters student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at William James College, where she is anticipating dual licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Biology from University of Massachusetts Amherst. 

During her graduate studies, Anna interned with Eliot Community Health conducting intake assessments, providing therapeutic mentoring, and delivering Therapeutic Training and Support within in-home therapy. With experience working at a community health center, Anna has developed skills in effective communication, emotional regulation strategies, treatment planning, and creating safe, collaborative therapeutic environments with families. Anna also has a background in research from her time at the Work and Family Transitions Project at Umass Amherst, where she contributed to a study that explored the needs of low-income families during major life transitions such as parenthood. 

Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family system therapy, and narrative therapy thus far, Anna is continuing to develop her clinical skills, focusing on creating compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based therapeutic environments! 

Outside of her professional development, Anna enjoys spending time with her two cats, exploring new hiking paths, playing video games with her friends, and the occasional tv binge!
